POTUS Biden Says Omicron Variant Is ‘Cause For Concern, Not A Cause For Panic’ + WHO Warns Omicron Poses ‘High Infection Risk’

President Joe Biden is reassuring the nation that the new Omicron Coronavirus variant, which was first identified last week by researchers in South Africa, is a cause for concern, but folks shouldn’t panic. At least not at this point. The doctor who discovered the variant says symptoms seem “mild.”

The World Health Organization warned that the variant poses a “high infection risk.” Details inside…

A new Coronavirus variant was identified last week by doctors and researchers in South Africa called B.1.1.529, also called Omicron. The new Omicron variant has caused a major increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in South Africa and doctors are working to understand its potential implications.

According to its website, Omicron is a highly divergent variant with a high number of mutations, including 26-32 in the spike, some of which are concerning and may be associated with immune escape potential and higher transmissibility. However, there are still considerable uncertainties.

The main uncertainties are:

(1) how transmissible the variant is and whether any increases are related to immune escape, intrinsic increased transmissibility, or both;

(2) how well vaccines protect against infection, transmission, clinical disease of different degrees of severity and death;

(3) does the variant present with a different severity profile. Public health advice is based on current information and will be tailored as more evidence emerges around those key questions.

The World Health Organization began naming the variants after Greek letters to avoid public confusion. According to the Greek alphabet, the World Health Organization was expected to name the latest coronavirus variant "Nu" or "Xi." But both names were seen as problematic. The health agency went straight to Omicron — the 15th letter in the Greek alphabet.

The WHO warned that the global risk from the omicron variant poses a “high infection risk” around the globe because it’s seemingly easier to transfer.

According to Dr. Angelique Coetzee – the South African doctor who first identified the new strain – told the BBC that COVID symptoms linked to the Omicron variant have been described as “extremely mild.”

“It actually started with a male patient who’s around the age of 33 … and he said to me that he’s just [been] extremely tired for the past few days and he’s got these body aches and pains with a bit of a headache,” she told the BBC.

The patient didn’t have a sore throat, she said, but more of a “scratchy throat” but no cough or loss of taste or smell — symptoms that have been associated with previous strains of the coronavirus.

Coetzee said she tested the male patient for Covid, and he was positive, as was his family, and then said she saw more patients that day presenting with the same kinds of symptoms that differed from the delta variant.

This prompted her to raise the alarm with South Africa’s vaccine advisory committee, of which she is a member. Other patients Coetzee had seen so far with the omicron variant had also experienced what she described as “extremely mild” symptoms, and she added that her colleagues had noted similar cases.

“What we are seeing clinically in South Africa — and remember I’m at the epicenter of this where I’m practicing — is extremely mild, for us [these are] mild cases. We haven’t admitted anyone, I’ve spoken to other colleagues of mine and they give the same picture.”

President Joe Biden held a press conference at the White House today to reassure Americans that the Omicron variant is a cause for concern, but it’s “not a cause for panic. At least, not now.

With the information scientists have now, he said he’s not considering any widespread lockdowns across the nation. However, he did encourage Americans to get fully vaccinated, including booster shots. He also urged people to return to wearing face masks indoors in public places to slow down any spread.

As of now, the new variant reportedly hasn’t reached the U.S., but it will. And when it does, President Biden said will “face this new threat just as we’ve faced those that have come before it.”

Watch below:

Our administration is working with health officials around the world to learn all we can about the Omicron variant. Right now, it is critical that everyone get the vaccine and their booster shot if they have not done so already. https://t.co/DrXPdzqRjL

— Vice President Kamala Harris (@VP) November 29, 2021

The new variant has prompted the US, UK and EU to issue a travel ban on Southern African countries – a decision criticized by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa.

António Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, said he was “deeply concerned about the isolation of southern African countries” and favored rigorous testing over travel bans.

The Associated Press reports:

Biden last week moved to restrict travel from South Africa and seven other countries in southern Africa, effective Monday, in a bid to give scientists time to learn more about the new variant, and for more Americans to get vaccinated before it hits the U.S. South African officials have argued they are being punished for speedily identifying and reporting the new variant.

The White House said there are no plans to cut down Biden’s travel as a result of the new variant.

CDC is strengthening its recommendation on #COVID19 vaccine booster doses. Everyone ages 18 and older should get a booster shot either when they are 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series or 2 months after initial J&J vaccine. — CDC (@CDCgov) November 29, 2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has strengthened its recommendation on COVID booster shots, telling all adults that they “should” get an additional dose amid growing concern about the new variant.

“The recent emergence of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) further emphasizes the importance of vaccination, boosters, and prevention efforts needed to protect against COVID-19,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement.

Earlier this month, the CDC said everyone over 18 “may” get a booster shot if they wanted one. Now, they SHOULD.

Mask up everyone and keep sanitizing! If you’re vaccinated, consider getting a booster shot. Need more information about it? Click here

We’d like to note, the Omicron variant is not a “South African variant.” We’ve been seeing it called that and it’s incorrect terminology.

Jury Finds All Three White Men Accused Of Killing Ahmaud Arbery GUILTY!

The verdict is in! All three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery have been found GUILTY. Details inside…

Finally some form of justice!

After 10 hours of deliberations, the jury reached a decision and found all three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery GUILTY!

Travis McMichael, his father, Gregory McMichael, and their neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, were found guilty of murder and other charges in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery.

Travis McMichael, who fired the fatal shots, was found guilty on all nine counts, including malice murder and four counts of felony murder. His father, Gregory McMichael was found guilty of all but 1 (malice murder) of the 8 charges brought against him. He was found guilty of four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony. He was acquitted only on a malice murder charge.

Their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan, was found guilty of 3 counts of felony murder, one count aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit a felony. He was not convicted of malice murder, one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault.

According to CNN, Travis faces a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole on each of the four felony murder charges, 20 years on each of the aggravated assault charges, 10 years on the false imprisonment charge and five years on the criminal attempt to commit a felony charge.

Gregory faces a sentence of up to life in prison without the possibility of parole on each of the four felony murder charges, 20 years on each of the aggravated assault charges, 10 years on the false imprisonment charge and five years on the criminal attempt to commit a felony charge.

William faces a sentence of up to life in prison without the possibility of parole on each of the murder charges, 20 years on the aggravated assault charge, 10 years on the false imprisonment charge and 5 years on the criminal attempt to commit a felony charge.

President Joe Biden reacted to the guilty verdicts, stating,

“Nothing can bring Mr. Arbery back to his family and to his community, but the verdict ensures that those who committed this horrible crime will be punished.”

“Ahmaud Arbery’s killing – witnessed by the world on video – is a devastating reminder of how far we have to go in the fight for racial justice in this country. Mr. Arbery should be here today, celebrating the holidays with his mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, and his father, Marcus Arbery. Nothing can bring Mr. Arbery back to his family and to his community, but the verdict ensures that those who committed this horrible crime will be punished,” his statement read.

“While the guilty verdicts reflect our justice system doing its job, that alone is not enough. Instead, we must recommit ourselves to building a future of unity and shared strength, where no one fears violence because of the color of their skin. My administration will continue to do the hard work to ensure that equal justice under law is not just a phrase emblazoned in stone above the Supreme Court, but a reality for all Americans.”

As expected, cheers erupted in the courtroom after the verdict was read.

Judge Timothy Walmsley asked Ahmaud’s father, Marcus Arbery Sr., to leave the courtroom after he yelled out “Woohoo!” when the first guilty verdict was read.

In the hallway of the courtroom, Wanda Cooper-Jones, Ahmaud’s mother, sobbed.

On February 23, 2020, Wanda’s life changed forever. Her 25-year-old son, Ahmaud Arbery, was fatally gunned down in broad daylight while jogging through a neighborhood outside Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia.

Two white men – Gregory McMichael (a former Glynn County police officer turned District Attorney’s office investigator) and his son, Travis McMichael – chased Ahmaud (an innocent man), cornered him and then shot him dead during a struggle with Travis over his shotgun. A third man, William “Roddie” Bryan, recorded the murder.

On the day Ahmaud ran through the neighborhood, the three men automatically assumed he was a burglar and began chasing him down. No arrests were made until almost THREE months after Ahmaud’s death. Footage of Ahmaud being killed made its way online and that really put the spotlight on the case.

Now, the men have been found guilty of killing Ahmaud! We’re keeping our fingers crossed they are sentenced properly.

Former NFLers Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson React To Now Ex-Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden’s Racist, Homophobic, Sexist Emails

Former Black NFL stars, Randy Moss and Keyshawn Johnson, are speaking out in response to the controversy surrounding leaked racist emails sent by former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden.

Jon Gruden resigned as head coach of the Raiders after reports emerged of him using homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in emails while he worked as an ESPN analyst.  A lot is happening. Get the deets inside…

The NFL is in a tizzy!

A few days ago, Jon Gruden "stepped down" as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after reports were released about him using homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in emails while he worked as an ESPN analyst.  And by stepped down, we put our money on fired.

Some were shocked, while others weren’t. Everyone is talking about it.

After the reports were published, Jon Gruden said he didn’t have "a blade of racism" in his body in response to an email he wrote where he described NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith, who is Black, as having “lips the size of michellin tires” in an email 10 years ago. Gruden said he regularly used the phrase “rubber lips” to describe anyone he considered a liar.

Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss got emotional during ESPN’s "NFL Countdown" after he was asked he could play football for Gruden after the emails were revealed. He said he was hurt by Gruden’s emails especially since he’s in a leadership position.

"For us to be moving back and not forward … National Football League, this hurts me."

A powerful conversation from the Sunday NFL Countdown crew on Jon Gruden’s 2011 email that included a racist comment in reference to NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith: pic.twitter.com/FQvMGFUfOj

— ESPN (@espn) October 10, 2021

"Now being able to play 14 years in the National Football League to have something like this of a leader," Moss said. "We talk about leadership. We give guys these big contracts because they want to be able to lead 70 men, coaches, equipment staff and managers to the No. 1 goal and that’s to win a championship. And for us to be moving back and not forward in the 21st century. Like I said, man, National Football League: this hurts me. The clock is ticking, man. I’m sorry."

Peep the clip above.

More from the interview below:

The NFL is exploring potential discipline for Gruden in response to his comments. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they removed Gruden from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor following his resignation from the Raiders.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who won a title under Gruden in 2002, said he always felt that Gruden was a” fraud” and a “used car salesman.”

“He’s just always been a fraud to me…from day one he’s been a used car salesman and people bought it.”@keyshawn reacts to Jon Gruden’s resignation from the Raiders. #KJM pic.twitter.com/iVu7vlJCjk

— Keyshawn, JWill & Max (@KeyJayandMax) October 12, 2021

“He’s just always been a fraud to me. … From day one, he’s been a used car salesman,” said the former player-turned-sports analyst. “And people bought it because he inherited a championship team built by Tony Dungy and Rich McKay, and he came in there with a little bit of different energy than we had with Tony, and it kind of kicked us over the top to get our world championship — which I am grateful for. But at the same time, I also saw through who he was through that journey of getting a championship.”

Peep the clip above.

The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal published reports that Gruden used homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in a series of hateful messages over a seven-year period that ended in 2018. Gruden sent an email to Bruce Allen, the former president of the Washington Football Team, where he called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a “f*ggot” and a “clueless anti football p*ssy”.  Everything was uncovered in an ongoing investigation into The Washington Football Team’s problematic front office culture and disturbing claims brought by former members of the cheerleading team.

In other emails Gruden said player Eric Reid, one of the first players to kneel alongside Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem in protest at police brutality, should be fired. He also called then Vice-President Joe Biden a “nervous clueless p*ssy” and exchanged photos of women wearing only bikini bottoms.

Folks have been sounding off about the controversial emails on social media:

Jon Gruden has always been this man. He’s always felt this way. We are better off knowing it and the league is better off without him. Just know, he ain’t the only one. Someone had to be receiving those emails too! https://t.co/louFtTX770

Sen. Tim Scott Says ‘America Is Not A Racist Country’ In SOTU Rebuttal, Folks Go IN + Twitter Blocks ‘Uncle Tim’ From Trending

Republican Senator Tim Scott – the only Black Republican serving in the Senate – had social media on fire when he said “America is not a racist country” during his GOP rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress. Deets inside…

Senator Tim Scott’s (R-S.C.) rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress had social media on fire! Especially when he made the comment “America is not a racist country.”

First things first…

What a historic moment it was to hear @POTUS Biden say: "Madame Speaker. Madame Vice President. No president has ever said those words from this podium, and it’s about time."
I feel proud to be an American witnessing this progress, let’s keep it going! pic.twitter.com/j1P6xOumxk

— Ambassador Randy Berry (@USAmbNepal) April 29, 2021

It was a historic night for our country as President Biden delivered an address to a joint session of Congress to mark his first 100 days in office and he made sure to highlight the women in charge – VP Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – in the room.

”Madame Speaker, Madame Vice President. No president has ever said those words from this podium and it’s about time,” he said from the podium in the House Chamber.

“In our first 100 Days together, we have acted to restore the people’s faith in our democracy to deliver,” he said. “We’re vaccinating the nation. We’re creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. We’re delivering real results people can see and feel in their own lives. Opening the doors of opportunity. Guaranteeing fairness and justice. That’s the essence of America. That’s democracy in action.”

President Biden didn’t shy away from some of the REAL issues the country is battling like systemic racism, white supremecy and police brutality during his State of the Union address.

In his response, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott – the only Black Republican serving in the Senate – accused Democrats of dividing the country by wielding race as “a political weapon.”

Y’all ready? pic.twitter.com/nbXkfw549Q

— Tim Scott (@SenatorTimScott) April 29, 2021

He defended the GOP against racism accusations:

"America is not a racist country," Scott said. "It’s wrong to try to use our painful past to try to dishonestly shut down debates in the present. It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present,” he argued.

“I get called ‘Uncle Tom’ and the n-word by progressives, by liberals,” he said. “Just last week, a national newspaper suggested my family’s poverty was actually privilege because a relative owned land generations before my time.”

Maybe he didn’t have a proofreader to look over his speech because he claims America isn’t a racist country, but he also talked about his own experience of being discriminated against by police and being called racial slurs from liberals.

"I have experienced the pain of discrimination," the 55-year-old said. "I know what it feels like to be pulled over for no reason and to be followed around a store while I’m shopping."

But didn’t he say America wasn’t…nevermind.

Senator Scott also gave a shoutout to all of the “single mothers” holding it down:

Sen. Tim Scott: "To the single mothers out there, who are working their tails off, working hard, trying to make the ends meet, wondering if it’s worth it: you can bet it is. God bless your amazing effort on the part of your kids."https://t.co/M3rpxwDgdO pic.twitter.com/x9kFTRqy8f

— ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) April 29, 2021

We’re not sure where this sudden concern for single mothers is coming from when Republicans are the party of removing any and all social programs that would help and/or prevent single motherhood.  Sounds like a new Republican talking point that they believe will appeal to a certain group that they assume they can sway to their side.  The same way they act like they care about prison reform in order to sway black men as if that’s the only thing MAJORITY of black people care about.

But, we digress.

The same mayonnaise flavored birthers who told Barack Obama to ‘go back to Kenya,’ called his wife a ‘gorilla in heels,’ voted for a klansman’s son, and stormed the US Capitol are crying RACISM because Tim Scott is being dragged for saying “America is not a racist country.”

— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) April 29, 2021

Until senator Tim Scott stops pushing falsehoods and starts confronting the racism and white supremacy throughout his own party and hold those accountable who incited an insurrection I really don’t want to hear him lecture on anything.

— Matthew Dowd (@matthewjdowd) April 29, 2021

So much of Tim Scott’s speech was geared to rebutting a Biden address on structural racism that he didn’t deliver and obviously wasn’t going to deliver — latest example of GOP elites getting high on their own supply.

Political strategist and commentator Ana Navarro-Cárdenas shared some notable tweets in response to Scott’s rebuttal:

In past, @SenatorTimScott spoke candidly about being a Black man in America.

For me, tonight’s speech felt out of touch. We’ve seen the videos. We know the names. He disappointed me.

But calling him, “Uncle” this or that is not constructive. Police reform will not pass w/o him.

— Ana Navarro-Cárdenas (@ananavarro) April 29, 2021

So she doesn’t understand the “uncle” reference. Cool.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was seemingly napping during Biden’s addressl

— D Taks (@hichunky) April 29, 2021

During Sen. Scott’s speech and after, the term “Uncle Tim” started trending on Twitter. A spokesperson for the social media platform confirmed they decided to block the trend.

“This is in line with our policies on Trends, specifically: ‘We want Trends to promote healthy conversations on Twitter. This means that at times, we may not allow or may temporarily prevent content from appearing in Trends until more context is available. This includes Trends that violate The Twitter Rules,’” a Twitter spokesperson told National Review in an email.

This morning, Sen. Scott said “Uncle Tim” trending last night was “upsetting,” “disappointing,” and he said it shows the left “are literally attacking the color of my skin.”

“You cannot step down out of your lane, according to the liberal elite left,” he continued.

We can fight about whether we believe America is a racist nation until we’re blue in the face. However, we would rather see Congress get some of those bills on Biden’s desk to get signed so we can start moving forward!

Biden & Harris Push For Police Reform After Derek Chauvin Verdict + Everyone’s Reaction To All THREE Guilty Convictions!

People all around the world took a sigh of relief when a jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty on all three counts he faced in the murder of George Floyd.

The 45-year-old former Minneapolis police officer was charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The members of the 12-person jury UNANIMOUSLY found Derek Chauvin GUILTY on all three counts. And listen, this is unprecedented. We all witnessed history where the justice system operated as it should and not the way THEY designed.

After the verdict was announced, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held a press conference to address the nation about the case. POTUS called the guilty verdicts a “giant step forward” in the fight against systemic racism. However, “it’s not enough,” he said.

”We can’t stop here,” Biden said.

VP Harris made a good point when she said racism is what’s holding this country back from fulfilling its founding promise of “liberty and justice for all.”

“It is not just a Black America problem or a people of color problem. it is a problem for every American,” she said. “It is holding our nation back from reaching our full potential. A measure of justice isn’t the same as equal justice,” she said.

Both Biden and Harris called on Congress to make swift actions in addressing police reform, including by approving a bill named after George Floyd.

Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman Details Recent Racial Profiling Incident With Security Guard – ‘One Day You’re Called An Icon, The Next Day, A Threat’

National poet laureate Amanda Gorman opens up about a recent racial profiling incident, vocalizing how black girls and women are treated like this daily for simply existing. More inside…

It’s Women’s History Month and Black women are still being harassed for existing.

National poet laureate Amanda Gorman captivated the nation when she took the stage as President Joe Biden’s inaugural poet to deliver her powerful poem, “The Hill We Climb.” Months later, she realized no matter how many great accomplishments you’ve achieved, some people will mistreat you simply based on the color of your skin.

Days before her 23rd birthday on March 7th, the 22-year-old YBF literary star took to Twitter to share how a security guard tailed her on her walk home Friday night. She said the guard stopped her because she “looked suspicious.”

”I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology,” she tweeted. “This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat,” the Harvard graduate and National Youth Poet Laureate continued.

As sad as it sounds, she’s absolutely right. Black girls and women are often questioned when they take up space in places some people feel they shouldn’t have access to.

In the following tweet, she bossed up, and reminded folks who she is:

"In a sense, he was right," she tweeted. "I AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be."

And THAT’S how you clear a racist, ignorant person.

Amanda Gorman’s experience is that of so many black people.

Happy she made it home safely. So many others don’t. https://t.co/0maYbYGIWO

— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche) March 6, 2021

Amanda’s own racial profiling experience comes weeks after she tweeted in defense of the 9-year-old black girl who was pepper sprayed by police in New York:

Wow, a fantastic @washingtonpost piece by @nnekamcguire . We live in a contradictory society that can celebrate a black girl poet & also pepper spray a 9 yr old. Yes see me, but also see all other black girls who’ve been made invisible. I can not, will not, rise alone. https://t.co/tP531SCjrk

— Amanda Gorman (@TheAmandaGorman) February 14, 2021

“We live in a contradictory society that can celebrate a black girl poet & also pepper spray a 9 yr old. Yes see me, but also see all other black girls who’ve been made invisible. I can not, will not, rise alone,” she tweeted.

The 22-year-old YBF literary star became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history during President Joe Biden & VP Kamala Harrisswearing-in at the U.S. Capitol. She’s also the first National Youth Poet Laureate in America, gaining the title in 2014. Now, she’s a part of a small group of poets who have been called on to help mark a presidential inauguration, including Maya Angelou, Robert Frost, Miller Williams, Elizabeth Alexander and Richard Blanco.

Inaugural Post Amanda Gorman’s Glow Up: Set To Perform At Super Bowl, Inks IMG Models Deal, Three Of Her Books Get Million Print Orders

Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman’s glow is mad real! The 22-year-old – the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history – is set to recite an original poem at the Super Bowl, she has signed a contract with IMG Models and she’s set to publish one million copies EACH of her three books under a new deal. Celebrate inside…

Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman is LEVELING UP in a major way.

You’ll recall, the 22-year-old YBF literary star became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history after she recited an original poem "The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden & VP Kamala Harris swearing-in at the U.S. Capitol a little over a week ago.

Since then, Amanda – who is also the country’s first National Youth Poet Laureate – has been inking new deals and landing some mega gigs. Literally, in one week she has accomplished some historic feats!

The Los Angeles native has been tapped to recite an original poem at the Super Bowl held in Tampa (Feb. 7th). She’ll pay tribute to three people — educator Trimaine Davis, nurse manager Suzie Dorner and Marine veteran James Martin — for their contributions during the pandemic.

The Harvard grad will be the first poet EVER to perform at the Super Bowl. Woot! 2021 is a year of firsts for her.

There’s more…

Earlier this week, Amanda inked a deal with IMG Models, which represents fashion heavyweights Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dun, Kate Moss and more. The agency will represent the literary star in the fashion and beauty industries to secure editorial opportunities and brand endorsements.

Great news: "Penguin announces ONE MILLION COPY first printings for @TheAmandaGorman books in response to overwhelming demand." Her inaugural poem book is being rushed for March release; the original two books are slated for September.

Amanda’s star power has catapulted, which in turn has built interest in her literary work. She’s set to is set to publish one million copies each of her three books under a new deal.

One million hardcover copies of Amanda’s book “The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country,” will be published via Viking Books for Young Readers. It’s set to be released March 16th. There’s so much hype around this YBF star that the company decided to push the release date up from April 27th and fewer copies were going to be published.

Penguin Random House is set to publish one million copies of Amanda’s poetry collection, “The Hill We Climb and Other Poems,” which is set to be released September 21st. Also, one million more copies of Amanda’s first book “Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem” will be published later this year.

”Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem” and “The Hill We Climb and Other Poems” are currently at the top of Amazon’s bestseller list!

Last night, she chopped it up with Trevor Noah on “The Daily Social Distancing Show” about how she’s handling her new found fame, why she felt it was important to write a poem for “that moment,” and more.

On daytime TV…

The 22-year-old poet also appeared on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” where the daytime talk show host “endorsed” her for president.

What a blast to be on @TheEllenShow yesterday! Thanks for having me and happy bday Ellen! pic.twitter.com/WjWanYdock

President Biden Revives Harriet Tubman $20 Bill Plan After Trump Said It Would Be Delayed For Years

President Joe Biden is moving forward with the plan announced five years ago that would place Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. The Trump administration said it was delayed due to “technical issues.” More inside…

President Joe Biden has been signing executive orders and making changes left and right since he was sworn in office less than a week ago.

You may remember there was talk about placing abolitionist Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, replacing former president Andrew Jackson.

“I was here when we announced that, and it was very exciting and hasn’t moved forward yet,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki – who also served in the Obama administration – told reporters during a recent briefing. “The Treasury Department is taking steps to resume efforts to put Harriet Tubman on the front of the new $20 notes. It’s important that our notes, our money… reflect the history and diversity of our country and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note will certainly reflect that.”

Here’s a peek at the proposed bill:

Obama: Harriet Tubman will go on the $20 bill
Trump: No, she won’t
Biden today: Oh yes, she will pic.twitter.com/nbRmWqFRRR

Twenty-dollar bill going from Andrew Jackson to Harriet Tubman — one symbol of difference between Trump and Biden. Proposed new design below: pic.twitter.com/e6xaukiSJJ

— Michael Beschloss (@BeschlossDC) January 25, 2021

The Obama administration announced the plan in 2016, however, the Trump administration put it on pause. In 2019, the Trump administration said the change would be delayed until at least 2028 due to “technical issues.” White House Press Secretary Psaki said the White House is "exploring ways to speed up that effort."

If the change is made, Harriet Tubman would become the first Black person to be placed on U.S. paper currency. As you know, the famed abolitionist freed thousands of slaves via the Underground Railroad.

There’s significance behind the $20 bill and Harriet. In 1899, lawmakers agreed to set Harriet’s monthly military pension at $20/month. She helped the Union Army during the Civil War as a spy, nurse and laundry worker. A $20 payment at that time is equivalent to over $530.

Sweet! Are you excited about Harriet Tubman being placed on the $20 bill?

INAUGURATION DAY! Biden & Harris Sworn In + The Obamas Were A Major Flex + Heroic Capitol Officer Escorts VP Harris + Dior 1s Sneakers Trend

We’ve rounded up all of the Inauguration Day festivities from Biden/Harris getting sworn in, to the Obamas shutting ish down, love being shown to Eugene Goodman – the heroic Black Capitol police officer during the riot, to Dior x Air Jordan 1s trending on social media. Get it all inside…

A spirit of unity filled the air in Washington, D.C. today two weeks after turmoil erupted when Trump supporters carried out a violent attack against the U.S. Capitol. It was a peaceful transfer of power to kick off a new era in America.

Joe Biden was sworn in and became the 46th president of the United States. He used a 19th century family Bible to be sworn in. The huge Bible is a family heirloom that has been in the Biden family since 1893.

In his inaugural address, President Biden called for the American people to come together after four years of division.

"Politics doesn’t have to be a raging fire destroying everything in its path," Biden said. "We have to be different than this. America has to be better than this. I will be a president for all Americans," Biden said. "I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as those who did."

Watch Biden be sworn in and his inaugural speech below:

Biden also put up his first social media post as President:

Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States, making history as the first Black person, first South Asian-American and first woman to ever hold the office. She’s also the first HBCU grad and first member of a Black sorority to do so.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor – the first woman of color to serve on the Supreme Court – administered the oath. VP Harris used two Bibles to be sworn in. One belonged to family friend Regina Shelton (whom Harris views as a surrogate mother). The second Bible was previously owned by the late Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court Justice and Harris’ lifelong political role model.

At Just 22-Years-Old Amanda Gorman Is The Youngest Inaugural Poet In U.S. History, Pays Homage To Poet Icon Maya Angelou

Talk about a breath of fresh air of #BlackGirlMagic! 22-year-old Amanda Gorman delivered a poem that amazed the world and she also paid homage to poet icon Maya Angelou, who came before her. Celebrate this bomb YBFer inside…

What a wonderful day to be a black woman! Watching all of the women take center stage during Inauguration Day warmed our hearts.

After four years of turmoil, the light at the end of the tunnel has arrived. And it came as a 22-year-old Los Angeles native.

Amanda Gorman took the stage as President Joe Biden’s inaugural poet and she made HERstory. The 22-year-old YBF literary star became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history today at President Joe Biden & VP Kamala Harris swearing-in at the U.S. Capitol. She’s also the first national poet laureate in America, gaining the title in 2014.

She delivered an empowering poem titled, “The Hill We Climb.”

Now, she’s a part of a small group of poets who have been called on to help mark a presidential inauguration, including Maya Angelou, Robert Frost, Miller Williams, Elizabeth Alexander and Richard Blanco.

The young poet followed in the footsteps of late literary icon Maya Angelou, who delivered her poem “On the Pulse of Morning” at the first inauguration of President Bill Clinton on January 20, 1993. Amanda paid homage to Maya Angelou by accessorizing her Inauguration Day look with a ring shaped like a caged bird, a tribute to Angelou’s famous poem, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”

I have never been prouder to see another young woman rise! Brava Brava, @TheAmandaGorman! Maya Angelou is cheering—and so am I. pic.twitter.com/I5HLE0qbPs

— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) January 20, 2021

Turns out, media mogul Oprah gifted the ring – along with a pair of earrings – for Amanda to wear with her Prada look to carry out a tradition. Lady O’s bestie/”CBS This Morning” co-anchor Gayle King spilled the tea about how the tribute came about during CBS News’ live broadcast:

"Maya [Angelou] did Bill Clinton’s address. She reached out to Amanda because [Winfrey] bought Maya her coat that she wore that day," King explained. "She said, ‘I’d like to get a coat for you to carry on that tradition.’"

"[Gorman] said, ‘I’ve already picked out my coat. It’s yellow. It’s my favorite color.’" So instead of a coat, Winfrey gave Gorman earrings and "a ring that’s shaped like a caged bird" as a tribute to Angelou’s ionic poem, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

In her poem, Amanda – a recent graduate of Harvard University – called for “unity” and she didn’t shy away from addressing the violent insurrection against the Capitol two weeks ago.

"We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it. Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy. And this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, It can never be permanently defeated.

“We lift our gaze, not to what stands between us, but what stands before us. We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside,” she said.

Amanda delivered words that invoked hope and a sense of purpose during a time where Americans are struggling to live a normal life during the COVID-19 pandemic, police brutality and partisan division. She did an amazing job.

Watch her moving poem below:

Forever First Lady Michelle Obama gave Amanda a big hug after her poem:

After delivering her poem, she thanked Oprah for the special gift on Twitter:

Thank you! I would be nowhere without the women whose footsteps I dance in. While reciting my poem, I wore a ring with a caged bird—a gift from @Oprah for the occasion , to symbolize Maya Angelou, a previous inaugural poet. Here’s to the women who have climbed my hills before. https://t.co/5Tegd20sko

PRE-INAUGURATION FESTIVITIES: HBCUs & Black Excellence Were Celebrated On Inauguration Eve + Howard & FAMU Bands Show OUT!

Before Inauguration Day, there were a few virtual events that went down leading up to the big day. Black Excellence was celebrated virtually before Howard University hit the streets of D.C. with Vice President Kamala Harris. More inside…

Before President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in today, black excellence was celebrated! We’ve all just witnessed HERstory as Kamala is the first Black woman, first South Asian American and first woman in U.S. history to ever become the Vice President. Not to mention, Black voters helped deliver Biden’s presidency to defeat Trump.

Last night, the Presidential Inaugural Committee hosted a virtual celebration, “We Are One,’ to honor and celebrate all within the Black Community and African Diaspora, featuring powerful speakers, inspiring stories, and entertaining performances.

The event paid homage to the rich history and legacy of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities, as well as Black sororities & fraternities. Kamala Harris is the first HBCU graduate and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority member to be vice president.

Hosted by HBCU grad Terrence J, several of the nation’s top Black leaders delivered remarks, including voting rights activist/democracy queen Stacey Abrams and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, who is a close ally of Biden whose endorsement in South Carolina widened Biden’s winning margin and started his slew of March primary victories. Also, Rep. Cedric Richmond, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Joyce Beatty, Sen. Cory Booker, and the incoming senator from Georgia, Rev. Raphael Warnock, gave remarks.

There were also appearances by Leslie Jones, Frankie Beverly, Kim Fields, Erika Alexander, and Jason George.

For entertainment, there was a special performance by Tobe Nwigwe, in addition to performances by DJ D-Nice, The O’Jays, Rapsody, Step Afrika, the String Queens, the Texas Southern University Debate Team, and more.

Inauguration Rehearsal Interrupted Due To Smoke + Capitol Police Officers ‘Scared & Confused,’ 2 National Guards Removed From Duty + Feds Pay $10M For Ambulances

Inauguration rehearsals to swear in President-elect Joe Biden & VP-elect Kamala Harris came to a halt and the U.S. Capitol was placed on lock down yesterday after a fire sent smoke into the air, which caused security concerns. Also, Capitol police officers are feeling a type of way ahead of the inauguration. Get all of the details inside….

The U.S Capitol was placed on lock down yesterday as rehearsal for President-elect Joe Biden & VP-elect Kamala Harris was underway. The rehearsal was put on pause, the federal building was evaluated and placed on lock down after a fire in a homeless encampment about a mile away sent smoke into the air.

According to reports, Capitol Hill staffers received message warning of an "external security threat" prior to the dress rehearsal for the inauguration. People were ordered back inside the building and to stay away from windows. As you know, there’s a uber strong security presence at the Capitol following the failed insurrection of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6th. There are over 20,000 National Guard troops protecting Washington, D.C.

It was a safety concern in a city that’s already awaiting possible riots and protests due to Inauguration Day. As you know, Trump supporters are BIG mad he lost and have threatened another attack on the U.S. Capitol and Capitols in cities across the nation.

— Jackson Proskow (@JProskowGlobal) January 18, 2021

Thankfully, it was a false alarm. Not long after the situation was assessed, rehearsal resumed. Stand-ins took the role of Biden and Harris to play out the day’s festivities. Also, the U.S. Marine Band rehearsed before tomorrow’s big day.

— Jasper Colt (@jaspercolt) January 18, 2021

22-year-old Amanda Gorman – a black, female poet – was asked to write a poem for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, which she’ll read tomorrow. Also, Lady Gaga will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks are expected to perform.

It’s obvious there were some Capitol police officers who HELPED Trump supporters invade the Capitol, which has now seemingly wedged some distrust between the officers and leadership. People felt the attack was an "inside job," especially how the rioters were able to navigate through the complicated federal building and found certain offices of Congressmen & Congresswomen that aren’t easy to find.

According to reports, some officers are “scared & angry” that leadership will NOT support them if they have to use deadly force to protect themselves from domestic terrorists.

Sources have told TMZ there has been a lot of talk amongst the Capitol officers about whether they’re ALLOWED to use deadly force if it is needed in the upcoming riots.

The site reports:

Our sources say the issue came up at a roll call meeting last week, where one USCP officer asked his sergeants in the room, if they find themselves in a life or death situation — like several cops did on Jan. 6 — can they do whatever it takes to save their own lives, including the use of deadly force?

And, just as important … would USCP brass have their backs in the aftermath? We’re told the answer they got was NOT reassuring — more of a wishy-washy response that catered more to optics and the need to accommodate peaceful protesters. In other words, the answer they got was vague and, many say, unhelpful.

The officers are asking for a clear policy on the right to use deadly force if/when it’s needed.

We will bet our life savings if these were Black Lives Matter demonstrations, the use of whether to use deadly force or not would not even be an issue. And all of you reading this KNOW WHY.

People are also concerned if any National Guard members are also Trump extremists.

This morning, two Army National Guard members were removed from inauguration duty as party of the security vetting process to ensure troops do not have ties to extremist groups. A U.S. Army official and a senior U.S. intelligence official say the two National Guard members have been found to have ties to fringe right group militias. No plot against Biden was found. The anonymous officials did not say what fringe group the Guard members belonged to or what unit they served in. Glad they were able to remove these members before tomorrow. Hopefully, they find more (because you know they’re more) and have them removed in a timely fashion.

The Feds have been making plans in preparation for anything that may go down during the inauguration.

FEMA has reportedly hired American Medical Response, Inc. which will provide emergency services for tomorrow’s events and it cost them a cool $10 million. The company will provide ground and air ambulances, as well at EMT-trained personnel. Hopefully their services won’t be needed, but it’s nice to know they are there if anyone needs them.

Due to the pandemic, the live audience will be limited to mostly those currently in Congress. Trump previously announced he would not attend, but VP Mike Pence said he would be in attendance. Also, former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are expected to attend as well.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed there’s no foolywang on Inauguration Day tomorrow!

Trump Becomes The First President In U.S. History To Be IMPEACHED TWICE!

Trump has been impeached again, making him the first president in U.S. history to be impeached TWICE! The House charged the president with "incitement of insurrection" for his role in the violent riot Trump supporters carried out at the U.S. Capitol. Deets inside…

We’re exactly one week away from the post-Trump era. But before Trump is officially no longer the President of the United States, there’s some unfinished business.

The House just impeached Trump for a SECOND time, making him the first president in U.S. history to be impeached. Bloop! He was charged with "incitement of insurrection" for his role in the violent & deadly riot Trump supporters carried out at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. The failed coup attempt resulted in five deaths, including on Capitol police officer.

As you know, Trump instructed his supporters to storm the federal building to "stop the steal" of the 2020 presidential election. He denied it.

The vote to impeach Trump passed in the Democratic-controlled House, 232 to 197. Ten Republicans voted AGAINST Trump.

Before the vote, freshman Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) took the floor to denounce white supremacy and she DRAGGED the “white supremacist-in-chief” by his extensions. It was a “mic drop” moment and Republicans were “boo’n” like hit dogs! Check it:

The House will send the article of impeachment to the Senate so they can kick off the process of holding a trial to determine if Trump should be convicted. It’s likely the “trial” will not happen until after Trump is out of office (after January 20th), but we WILL see a trial for Trump. He can still be impeached and removed after he’s no longer in office. This is important because if convicted, he will be prevented from running for public office again for the rest of his life.

Here’s what else he’ll lose if convicted:

pensions equal to the annual pay of a White House cabinet member ($221,400 in 2021)

starting six months after leaving office, a governmental allowance for an office, staffing and equipment;

reimbursed travel expenses of up to $1 million annually for the ex-president and up to two staffers; spouses are allowed to $500,000 for travel;

lifetime security services provided by the Secret Service;

health benefits through the government’s Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, but only if they had five years of federal employment (Trump, like Jimmy Carter, would not qualify with only four years of civilian service);

funerals with full honors and the option of being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

In December 2019,  Trump was impeached by the House where he was charged with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

It’s unclear what will happen in the Senate once the trial kicks off.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reportedly told his Republican colleagues Wednesday afternoon that he remains undecided on whether he will vote to convict the president.

“While the press has been full of speculation, I have not made a final decision on how I will vote and I intend to listen to the legal arguments when they are presented to the Senate,” McConnell wrote in a letter to his colleagues.

We’re ready for President-elect Joe Biden & VP-elect Kamala Harris to get us back to normalcy.

Inside The U.S. Capitol Riot – The Saddest Day For Modern Democracy

Trump Says He Didn’t Incite Capitol Riot, Several Arrests Made + Black Capitol Officer Named A HERO + Horned Trump Supporter Gets Organic Food In Jail After Refusing To Eat

Trump defends the remarks he made and claims he didn’t incite violence before a mob of his supporters violently stormed the U.S. Capitol last week. A black Capitol police officer is being praised for his fast thinking, proving to be the REAL hero of the attack. Plus, the horned Trump supporter who got inside the Capitol requested only organic food in jail…and he GOT IT. Everything inside….

As House Democrats unveil article of impeachment against Trump, the failed commander-in-chief is still…doing what Trump does. Spew lies and more lies.

Today, he traveled to Alamo, Texas to defend his immigration policy and to tour some of the US-Mexico border wall. It’s the first time he has spoken publicly since the video he posted during the #MAGA mob attack. According to reports, Trump isolated himself in the White House following the vicious riot that took the lives of five people, including one Capitol police officer.

Before boarding a plane for the trip, Trump told reporters at the White House that he was NOT to blame for the violent insurrection at the US Capitol last week. Hours before the attack, he literally instructed his fan base to storm the federal building, saying:

"We’re going to have to fight much harder," Trump told supporters at a rally near the White House before the assault. "We are going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators, congressmen and women, and we are probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you will never take back our country with weakness."

However, Trump told reporters his remarks did NOT incite a riot and that his comments were "totally appropriate." Before boarding his plane, he told reporters at the White House:

President Trump speaks to media at White House: "We want no violence…on the impeachment, it’s really a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics…I think it’s causing tremendous danger in to our country…I want no violence." pic.twitter.com/XjiIfLrrTS

— CSPAN (@cspan) January 12, 2021

"We want no violence…on the impeachment, it’s really a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics…I think it’s causing tremendous danger in to our country…I want no violence,” he said.

45 then addressed his possible impeachment:

"This impeachment is causing tremendous anger, and you’re doing it and it’s really a terrible thing that they’re doing," he told reporters on the White House South Lawn. "For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it’s causing tremendous danger to our country, and it’s causing tremendous anger. I want no violence."

Peep the clip above.

Trump also addressed being banned from social media. He blamed “big tech” for dividing the country and said they’re making a terrible mistake because they’re contributing to more violence.

Q: "What is your role in what happened at the Capitol? What is your personal responsibility?"

President Trump: "If you read my speech…people thought that what I said was totally appropriate." pic.twitter.com/90Pdt8xFSz

— CSPAN (@cspan) January 12, 2021

"I believe it’s going to be a catastrophic mistake for them," he said. "They’re dividing and divisive, and they’re showing something that I’ve been predicting for a long time."

He also made sure to highlight the BLM protests that went down over the summer, but had no remarks for the people who participated in last week’s attack. No surprise.

Peep the clip above.

Trump’s new remarks come one day before the House is set to impeach him – for the second time – for his role in inciting the violent attack.

A Black Capitol police officer is now being hailed as a HERO for his quick thinking during the attack.

Thank you, Officer Eugene Goodman.

Officer Eugene Goodman was alone when a group of Trump supporters confronted him. Clearly outnumbered. However, he held back the domestic terrorists long enough for Senators to escape as rioters were closing in on the Senate Chamber. He single-handedly saved the Republic.

Watch below:

Eugene Goodman deserves the Medal of Valor! He could have stepped aside and let Trump insurgents get to the Senate chamber while Senators were still there. Instead, this heroic officer got them to follow him the other direction, giving lawmakers time to escape! pic.twitter.com/BFeK3ZBktN

Now, folks are calling on President-elect Joe Biden should award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Officer Goodman totally deserves this honor!

Following the insurrection, The U.S. Attorney’s Office arrested Jacob Anthony Chansley (aka "Jake Angeli" or "QAnon Shaman"). He was the most recognizable terrorist in the group as he was seen in viral photos dressed in horns, a bearskin headdress, with red, white and blue face paint. The Phoenix resident turned himself into the FBI field office after returning from Washington, D.C. over the weekend. He’s being accused of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

The failed actor who lives with his mom appeared before court yesterday, attending the hearing via phone from the detention facility where he is being held.

So check it. Jake Angeli’s court-appointed attorney told the judge that his client hasn’t been able to eat since he turned himself in Saturday because he has a restricted diet. Apparently, he follows a strict organic diet. So, what are they going to do?

UPDATE: Jacob Chansley (AKA Jake Angeli or QAnon Shaman) will be fed organic food, in line with his strict shaman diet, while in federal custody. "We will abide by the judge’s order," U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said. @abc15 https://t.co/k6mxwQeofM

— Melissa Blasius (@MelissaBlasius) January 12, 2021

They’re going to give him exactly what he asked for: organic food IN JAIL. Jake, by the way, is a failed actor who lives with his mother.  Say less, right?

The Associated Press reports:

"We will abide by the judge’s order," David Gonzales, U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona, told ABC15 Monday evening. Gonzales added that Chansley will be provided food in line with a shaman’s strict organic diet.

Chansley’s mother, Martha, was in the courtroom Monday. Afterward, she explained his diet. "He gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food – literally will get physically sick,“ Martha Chansley said.

We wonder how many BLACK inmates who follow an organic diet are actually receiving "organic food." This is AmeriKKKa.

As for the arrests…

We’ve given you info on some key rioters who have already been arrested and charged.

Richard Barnett, of Arkansas, was charged with “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful entry; violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; and theft of public money, property, or records. Barnett allegedly entered a restricted are of the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.”

VP-Elect Kamala Harris’ VOGUE Cover Missed The Mark, Her Team Reveals The Cover Photo Was Changed Last Minute

Vice President elect-Kamala Harris graces the newest cover of VOGUE magazine. However, folks aren’t pleased with it. And with good reason. More inside…

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Vogue (@voguemagazine)

Over the weekend, it was officially confirmed President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris won the 2020 election after the Electoral College votes were tallied. The official announcement came after Trump supporters’ violent attack against the U.S. Capitol, but Congress made sure to not let a group of mindless, domestic terrorists stop them from the transition of power. Thankfully.

To celebrate, VOGUE magazine released their February 2021 cover star and it was none other than our history making Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Lit, right? Yep. However, the cover. Yeah, folks were NOT feeling it.

The cover (that will get printed) features VP-elect Harris standing in front of a pink and green background in a black blazer and skinny pants paired with Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers (which she sometimes wore on the campaign trail) and her trademark AKA pearls (above). The pink and green background was a subtle tribute to the Howard University alum’s beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The editorial was captured by Tyler Mitchell, who became the first Black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover when his subject was Beyoncé.

“I grew up from a young age deeply understanding the rich history of these sororities and their significance,” Tyler Mitchell told VOGUE about the concept of the shoot. “With this cover shoot with Madam Vice President-elect Harris, I wanted the set design to pay homage to that history, her status as an AKA, and Black sororities and sisterhoods worldwide.”

You can read more here.

Social media users are NOT feeling the cover. At all.

”This photo better NOT the cover!!!!!!,” user @knappyhair wrote.

“For the First Female Vice President of the United States, I expect more on the cover of Vogue,” @ dream_journey_jenkins wrote.

”This looks like a photo I would’ve taken in 9th grade this is terrible,” @champagnemaia said.

They have a point.

There’s another photo of Kamala for VOGUE in a powder blue suit that some people felt was more “presidential” than the photo chosen for the printed cover:

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Vogue (@voguemagazine)

Critics weren’t feeling the informal picture chosen to represent our new Vice President of the United States.

According to Kamala’s team, the image chosen for the VOGUE cover was not the image both sides had agreed upon. Harris’ team said they were blindsided by the cover because they thought the image of Kamala in the powder blue suit would be the cover. THR reports:

Harris’ team was unaware that the cover photo had been switched until images leaked late Saturday, according to a person involved in the negotiations over how Harris would be featured on the cover. Harris’ office declined comment and the person spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity.

VOGUE also released a statement addressing the cover:

“The team at Vogue loved the images Tyler Mitchell shot and felt the more informal image captured Vice President-elect Harris’ authentic, approachable nature, which we feel is one of the Biden/Harris administration. To respond to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forwards, we’re celebrating both images of her as covers digitally.”

Now, VOGUE (*ahem* Anna Wintour *ahem*) knows good and well had this been a white, female VP they would not have picked an image of her in sneakers. Just sayin’.

Elaine Welteroth, former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue and current co-host of "The Talk" says this is what VOGUE is known to do.

She weighed in on the Vogue cover controversy on today’s show saying:

“I understand that there was a disconnect between the intention and the impact. The intention was to let this new era with a new administration that brings new energy and youthful energy and accessible energy. That was the intention behind the imagery. And they tapped a young black photographer to carry that out. He brought a youthful energy to this shoot. That’s not wrong.” Here’s why the intention didn’t match the impact. There is a larger, cultural context here. Vogue has a history of not representing Black women in the best light, literally and figuratively. So there isn’t an innate trust within this community."

Welteroth adds, "The problem is, what we’ve come to expect from a Vogue cover when they’re covering a presidential person is regal, elevated, sophistication…I think this was Vogue’s attempt at refreshing, modernizing, staying with the times, but I think Black folks haven’t seen ourselves like this on the cover…And I think a lot of people go, Vogue, they didn’t get it here.”

Finally, Congress CONFIRMS Joe Biden’s Presidential Win After Violent #MAGA Thugs’ Failed Coup Attempt

It’s officially official! Congress affirms President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory after MAGA thugs stormed the U.S. Capitol to delay the proceedings. Nice try. More inside…

To say yesterday was an interesting day would be an understatement. But despite that violent failed coup attempt at the U.S. Capitol, Congress finished what they started so the nation can accept its next commander-in-chief.

Around 4AM this morning, Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ victory after a long day and night of chaos, violence, objections and disorder. Trump supporters tried to stop the process of affirming our new president after Trump inspired them to do so, but failed.

Biden-Harris secured 306 electoral votes, while Trump-Pence scooped up 232 electoral votes. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. It was first announced by Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Right after, VP Mike Pence repeated the totals.

Check it below:

— CBS News (@CBSNews) January 7, 2021

Pence also condemned the domestic terrorists:

"To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today, you did not win," Vice President Pence said once lawmakers reconvened after many spent hours in lockdown. "Violence never wins. Freedom wins, and this is still the people’s house."

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (one of Trump’s closest allies) finally admitted Biden was “lawfully” elected and told his colleagues enough with the election fraud allegations.

”Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are lawfully elected and will become president and vice president of the United States on Jan. 20."

Check it:

Trump finally vowed an “orderly transition” of power.

…fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

— Dan Scavino (@DanScavino) January 7, 2021

Following hours of mayhem and pandemonium, the U.S. Capitol was finally secured. And four people are dead because of it, including one woman who was shot. Where was the National Guard? What took SO LONG for them to touch down? What about the snipers on top of the Capitol? What were they doing?

i cannot believe they got into the building this is insane pic.twitter.com/u9rn2CAQ3u

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol where they fought with Capitol police, trashed offices, stole things, scaled the walls, and sprayed fire extinguishers as lawmakers took cover by hiding and barricading themselves in offices.

Below is everything that went down (in real-time) yesterday:

Cardi B Tells Joe ‘Joey B’ Biden Black People Just Want To Feel Like Americans, Shares Fears As A Black Woman In America, COVID-19 & Police Brutality

Cardi B isn’t one to shy away from politics.

Before the Democratic presidential nominee was chosen, Cardi B was a huge supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders. Now that he has dropped out of the race, Bardi is grilling presidential hopeful Joe Biden. And sis made sure to bring up issues the black community really cares about.

Before getting to the nitty gritty, Biden introduced his daughter to the NYC raptress and shared that she gave him the nickname “Joey B,” when she was little. He jokingly said they could be related. Ha! Then, Cardi went right into flexing her political muscle for an ELLE magazine interview.

The “WAP” raptress – who covers the newest issue of ELLE magazine – talked about how we MUST vote Trump out of office because she can’t deal with another four years of his mess. Trump took a huge "L" when the Coronavirus first hit the United States and Cardi said we can’t afford to keep him in office.

"I have a whole list of things that I want our next president to do for us," she said. "But first, I just want Trump out. His mouth gets us in trouble so much."

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper and the former Vice President chopped it up in a wide-ranging conversation during a Zoom conference call about issues that are plaguing country. And Bardi made sure to let Biden know which issues were most important to her.

One thing that’s important to Cardi is HONESTY. The Bronx native said she doesn’t want a president who will lie to her. She wants a president that’s going to give her the facts, straight talk no chaser.

”I need someone to tell me the truth. The hardcore truth,” she said.

"There’s no reason why we can’t have all of that. Presidents have to take responsibility," Biden responded. "I understand one of your favorite presidents is Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt said the American people can take anything if you tell them the truth."

The “I Like It” rapper went on to tell Biden that black and brown people just want to feel equal.

"I feel like this country is so hurt, to the point that this year, a lot of people couldn’t even celebrate July 4th, because not everybody feels like an American," she said. "A lot of people feel like [they’re] not even part of America."

The Grammy Award winning rapper said she wants “laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops, too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail. You know what? If I kill somebody, I’ve got to go to jail. You gotta go to jail, too. That’s what I want."

The entertainer told the politician her fans are most interested in “free college and Medicare.”

"When you see the taxes coming off your check, you don’t understand, because you feel like you’re putting in so many hours. People want to know, can you provide college education, this [health care] plan, without a big chunk of taxes coming out of our checks?"

"Yes, we can," Biden responded. "And the way we can pay for all of this is doing practical things, like making sure that everybody has to pay their fair share. [For example] no corporation should pay less than 15 percent tax. If I get elected president, anybody with a family [that makes] less than 125 grand, you’re going to get free education," he said. "And everybody gets free community college."

Good to know.

“I feel like Black people, we’re not asking for sympathy,” @iamcardib tells presumptive Democratic presidential nominee @JoeBiden, “We’re not asking for charity—we are just asking for equality. It’s simple: We want to feel like Americans.” https://t.co/HRylmdQPPc pic.twitter.com/vUf7j9Cgrs

”I feel like Black people, we’re not asking for sympathy, we’re not asking for charity—we are just asking for equality. We are asking for fairness, and we are asking for justice. That is all. I feel like everything people are asking for is getting interpreted in a very different way. No, it’s simple: We just want justice. We want to feel like Americans,” she told Biden.

Here’s Biden’s response:

”Well, I’ll tell you what. I have a friend in Mississippi, Bennie Thompson, a very well-known congressman, an African American. He called me two weeks ago. He said, “Joe, I just came from a protest. There were as many white kids marching as Black kids. This is Mississippi, Joe. Things are changing.” The reason I’m so optimistic is because of your generation. You’re the smartest, the best educated, the least prejudiced, and the most engaged generation in history. And you’re going to change things. I really mean it! I’m not trying to be nice. And by the way, the rest of the world has always looked to us. Why? Not because we’re so powerful. But [because of ] the power of our example. Look what they’re seeing now with this president. He’s promoting hatred, prejudice, racism. Talking about protecting the Confederate flag when Mississippi takes it off their flag. This is all about the game of making people hate each other. Because that’s how he wins, by dividing us. Your generation is changing it.”

The NYC raptress also talked about being a Black woman in America and how she’s already thinking about the safety of her 2-year-old daughter.

"Prejudice is dangerous. It could be the start of a civil war. It makes people feel uncomfortable around different people," she said. "Nobody wants to feel targeted. Nobody wants animosity. Everybody just wants the best for themselves, their future, their kids’ future."

Watch their full exchange below:

It all sounds good. And we def don’t want another four years of Trump, so we’re holding out hope that Biden will do everything he claims he will do for the Black community. At this point, it’s about choosing who isn’t ACTIVELY AGAINST us, and who has experience, sense and the foresight to surround himself with extremely smart people.

Rudy Giuliani Says Kanye West Is Still A Trump Supporter, Thinks Rapper Wants 45 Re-elected + ‘Ye Booted Off Home State Ballot

Former NYC mayor and Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani says presidential hopeful Kanye West is still friends with Trump and he believes the rapper wants 45 reelected. See Giuliani’s interview, plus details on ‘Ye getting booted off the ballot in his home state of Illinois inside…

Kanye West is still fighting to get his name on ballots in hopes of winning the 2020 presidential election. Or is he?

There have been reports that suggest Republican operatives – some with ties to Trump – have been actively helping ‘Ye get his name on ballots in various states – including states like Wisconsin that could be critical in deciding the next president. It’s reported Republicans in at least four states are working to get Ye’s name on the ballots.

Having the Chi-town rapper’s name on the ballot could potentially take votes from Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

A few days ago, the Jesus is King rapper chopped it up with Forbes and they say he hinted his presidential bid was an attempt to snatch votes from Biden.

In a new interview with Forbes, Ye was asked about the possibly of running to steal votes from Biden and he said that rather than running for president, he was “walking.” Then, he added he was “walking … to win.”

Oh, and he still has current ties with the Trump administration.

The site reports:

When it was pointed out that he actually can’t win in 2020—that he won’t be on enough ballots to yield 270 electoral votes, and that a write-in campaign isn’t feasible—and thus was serving as a spoiler, West replied: “I’m not going to argue with you. Jesus is King.”

West rebuffed various attempts to clarify who was driving his ballot access or strategy and whether it’s being coordinated by or with Republican-affiliated officials. He does, however, appear to have a continuing relationship with the Trump White House. West says that he’s “designing a school within the next month” and that “I’m meeting with Betsy DeVos about the post-Covid curriculum.” (The Secretary of Education’s press office hadn’t responded to a request for comment by the time we published.)

“I like Kanye very much,” President Trump told reporters at the White House yesterday. “No, I have nothing to do with him getting on the ballot. We’ll have to see what happens.”

Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani – who joined Trump’s legal team in April 2018 – was asked about Ye’s presidential bid. Photogs caught up with the president’s personal attorney in NYC were he told them the Grammy Award winning artist and the president are still very much on good terms and that Ye is still a fan of the former reality TV host.

Not only that, Giuliani alluded to the Chi-town rapper being a way for Trump to get the Black vote. He noted Kanye is an example of African-Americans who are tired of the way they’ve been treated by Democrats.

Check it:

The “Big Ego” rapper has only officially qualified for the Oklahoma ballot. He has submitted petitions in several states, including Colorado, Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, Vermont and swing state Wisconsin. Signature verification is currently in process.

Wisconsin BLASTED Ye recently foe being late submitting signatures. According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

The state Democratic Party filed a complaint Friday asking state officials to block rapper Kanye West from appearing on the presidential ballot in Wisconsin this November, saying his campaign was tardy submitting its signatures.

The challenge also suggests there are numerous problems with West’s nomination papers, including incorrect addresses for circulators and bogus signatures, such as "Mickey Mouse" and "Bernie Sanders." It also included affidavits from six individuals who said they were duped into putting their names on West’s paperwork.

"If the affidavits are true … crimes were committed by the West campaign," said attorney Michael Maistelman, who gathered the affidavits for the state Democratic Party. A message sent to the email account listed on West’s Federal Election Commission filing bounced back as undeliverable.

What in the world…

Officials in Kanye’s home state of Illinois reviewed the validity of the signatures needed to secure his name would appear on the ballot in November. Turns out, ‘Ye reportedly turned in some invalid signatures. The Chicago Tribune reported he filed 3,218 signatures, however 1,928 of them were ruled invalid following a state elections board review.

In order to be considered as an independent nominee, Mr. West needed 2,500 written signatures from voters (in-state) by July 20th. He didn’t make the cut.

In my case against #KanyeWest , IL Bd of Elections records examination today finds him 1,300 valid signatures short of minimum required, meaning he is virtually certain to be kicked off ballot in IL. pic.twitter.com/g9e6DESZSb

— Ed Mullen (@edmullen3) August 7, 2020

Without Illinois, he wouldn’t be able to get 270 electoral votes, but we already know ‘Ye’s response to that news. Not only that, those invalid signatures could prompt an investigation, per White House correspondent April Ryan:

A blind man can see what’s going on here, yet, his stans still support.

Former "Wild ‘N Out" host Nick Cannon recently said he supports Kanye running for president because America needs another black man in office.

“I love it!” Nick told photogs about Ye’s presidential bid. “Yeah. We need another black man in power."

This ain’t it, Nick!

Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian West are still on their "save our marriage" roller coaster after went went on a series of rants where he spilled private information about their relationship. After reuniting with his family on vacation, "sources" say he’s in a "great place" and is "feeling creatively inspired."

"They will be spending the next few days glamping and being outdoors," a source revealed to E! News. The source explains that Kim and Kanye are taking the opportunity to "to relax together and spend time as a family."

"Kim and Kanye haven’t discussed anything political while spending the week together as a family. Kim didn’t want to rock the boat and argue with Kanye because the trip is all about the kids," the source shared. "They also would never argue in front of them."

Guys, do us all a favor and act accordingly at the polls in November. Please and THANK YOU.

Moments You May Have Missed From Congressman John Lewis’ Capitol Memorial

A week full of memorial services have been scheduled to honor the late longtime congressman/civil rights leader John R. Lewis leading up to his funeral in Atlanta this Thursday. Here are the moments you may have missed from his memorial held at the US capitol inside…

The nation lost a hero on July 17th when U.S. Representative/civil rights icon John R. Lewis passed away at the age of 80 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

The nation suffered a huge lost when Congressman Lewis passed away over the weekend. Like he said, he has been fighting for freedom, equality, and basic human rights for the black community his entire life. Congressman Lewis – who represented Georgia’s 5th Congressional District for over 30 years – marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 in Selma, Alabama and became one of the most famed civil rights leaders. Rep. Lewis was never scared and never backed down. From being beat down in Selma to going head-to-head against Donald Trump in recent years, Rep. Lewis was a fighter for equal change and he did so until his last breath. And for that, we are grateful!

John Lewis’ Family has scheduled a week-long celebration of his life leading up to his funeral on Thursday that will be held at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, the church civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his first sermon in 1947.

After a public memorial at Troy University’s Trojan Arena and Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma, John Lewis’ body made its way to a private ceremony held inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda with the theme “Conscience of the Congress.”  He’s only the fourth black American, and second black lawmaker after Rep. Elijah Cummings, to lie in State at the Capitol.

The hearse carrying John Lewis’ hearse and motorcade made several stops at important sites in Washington, D.C, before arriving at the U.S. Capitol for the civil rights icon to lie in state. The places visited included, The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Black Lives Matter Plaza, the Lincoln Memorial, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi eulogized her long time friend, growing emotional while talking about how he gave up his life for the betterment of the black community.

"We knew that he always worked on the side of the angels, and now we know that he is with them," she said. "When he made his speech (at the March on Washington) 57 years ago, he was the youngest speaker. How fitting it is that in the final days of his life, he summoned the strength to acknowledge the young people peacefully protesting in the same spirit of that march, taking up the unfinished work of racial justice. Helping complete the journey begun more than 55 years ago," she said.

Following Nancy Pelosi’s speech, words from John Lewis’ 2014 Emory University commencement speech.

You can watch the full ceremony below:

Notably absent from the ceremonies was President Donald Trump. On Monday, Trump announced he was not attending the memorial services at the Capitol. And honestly, that was for the best.  However, Vice President Mike Pence and his wife paid their respects.

Just before the ceremonies, the House reportedly passed a bill to establish a new federal commission to study conditions that affect Black men and boys.

On Sunday…

John Lewis’ body crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge for the last time on a horse-drawn carriage before an automobile hearse transported him to the Alabama Capitol. He was escorted by Alabama state troopers – with Black officers in their ranks. You’ll recall, John Lewis and others were beaten on the bridge in 1965 during a voting rights march, which was a pivotal event in the US civil rights movement. Now, there’s a push to rename the bridge in his honor.

After the memorial service at the Capitol, John’s body was moved on the Capitol’s east side in public view. Visitors lined up outside the Capitol to pay their respects to the civil rights icon. Mr. Lewis’ body will return to Georgia before his private funeral Thursday at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, which MLK once led.

May he continue to rest in power!

Protesters Petition To DEFUND The Police, But What Does That Actually Mean?

As protests across the nation continue, protesters are now demanding the defunding of the police! But, what does that mean? More inside…

Protesters across the nation have been calling to DEFUND the police! The new movement comes amid protests for George Floyd – the Minneapolis man who was killed after a white officer pressed his knee in the back of his neck for nearly 9 minutes. Not only that, police in Louisville killed a black EMT worker named Breonna Taylor during a botched raid.

The reckless and deadly use of force by the police has citizens calling for local governments to start defunding police departments.

— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) June 10, 2020

So, what does “defund the police” mean? For starters, it does NOT mean get rid of police departments entirely. Instead of spending millions of dollars to fund a police department, defunding the police would send back a portion of their excessive allotted budgets to the city’s budget for things like better schools, after school programs, mental health facilities – basically more money would be poured into addressing the roots of criminal activity (issues surrounding inequalities in education, minimum wage, etc.) and also would better serve the community.

"It’s not just about taking away money from the police, it’s about reinvesting those dollars into black communities. Communities that have been deeply divested from, communities that, some have never felt the impact of having true resources. And so we have to reconsider what we’re resourcing. I’ve been saying we have an economy of punishment over an economy of care," Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, told WBUR.

Billions of dollars are being poured into police departments and most officers aren’t balling out of control, so who’s actually getting the money? Questions like this lead to further investigation into how money is spent by police (reportedly majority is for weapons and other defensive measures).  And until money is properly spent, the police departments maybe shouldn’t receive $3B budgets where they still seem to be in disarray.

L.A.’s Mayor Eric Garcetti announced he would moving to defund the LAPD by $100-$150M for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.  This announcement comes after they were awarded an $1.8B budget this past year, up about $122 million from last year.

Three City Council members, Council President Nury Martinez as well as councilmen Herb Wesson and Curren Price, filed an official motion today to cut the budget.

"The city of Los Angeles is in the midst of a health and economic pandemic unlike any we have ever seen in our lifetimes," Martinez said.

"Following the gruesome murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, we are also in the midst of a social and racial justice crisis of epic proportions, where the good people of Los Angeles as well as the nation are asking their leaders to re-examine our priorities and to commit to taking a giant leap forward in recognizing and ending racism against black Americans."

Martinez said the budget reduction is "just one aspect of change," and that to end racism will take broader and ideological changes.

"Ultimately, we cannot talk about change, we have to be about change," the council president said.

Minneapolis has already started making steps towards dismantling their police force. The NY Times reports:

Nine members of the Minneapolis City Council — a veto-proof majority — pledged on Sunday to dismantle the Police Department, promising to create a new system of public safety in a city where law enforcement has long been accused of racism.

Saying that the city’s policing system could not be reformed, the council members stood before hundreds of people gathered late in the day on a grassy hill and promised to begin the process of taking apart the Police Department as it now exists.

For activists who have been pushing for years for drastic changes to policing, the move represented a turning point that they hope will lead to a transformation of public safety in the city.

It’s clear the system that’s in place now IS NOT working.

Why is "Defund The Police" such a trigger? It’s not disband the police or abolish the police. Divesting funds from bloated police budgets to invest in disenfranchised mainly black and brown communities bothers folks that much?

— Charlamagne Tha God (@cthagod) June 10, 2020

In 2012, Camden, New Jersey dissolved its police department and replaced it with a new one after corruption rendered the existing agency unfixable. Before the police reform, Camden was named as of the most violent cities in the U.S.

After they got rid of their police force, guess what happened? Well, the city’s crime dropped by close to half. Camden is totally different now where officers have built a relationship with the people they police. Officers host outdoor parties for residents and knock on doors to introduce themselves. It’s a radically different Camden than it was even a decade ago. Sweet.

As people continue to call for local governments to defund the police, several celebrities have added their name to a petition, which is an open open letter urging local governments to decrease police budgets in favor of spending more on health care, education, and other community programs. So far, John Legend, Common, The Weeknd, Lizzo, Yara Shahidi, Taraji P. Henson, Talib Kweli, and others have signed the letter to seek change.

The letter reads in part:

The COVID-19 deaths and the deaths caused by police terror are connected and consequential to each other. The United States does not have a national healthcare system. Instead, we have the largest military budget in the world, and some of the most well-funded and militarized police departments in the world, too. Policing and militarization overwhelmingly dominate the bulk of national and local budgets. In fact, police and military funding has increased every single year since 1973, and at the same time, funding for public health decreased every year, crystallized most recently when the Trump administration eliminated the US Pandemic Response Team in 2018, citing “costs”.

Black communities are living in persistent fear of being killed by state authorities like police, immigration agents or even white vigilantes who are emboldened by state actors. According to the Urban Institute, in 1977, state and local governments spent $60 billion on police and corrections . In 2017, they spent $194 billion. A 220 percent increase. Despite continued profiling, harassment, terror and killing of Black communities, local and federal decision-makers continue to invest in the police, which leaves Black people vulnerable and our communities no safer.

Where could that money go? It could go towards building healthy communities, to the health of our elders and children,to neighborhood infrastructure, to education, to childcare, to support a vibrant Black future. The possibilities are endless.

We join in solidarity with the freedom fighters in Minneapolis, Louisville, and across the United States. And we call for the end to police terror.

You can join in on the movement and sign your name HERE.

Neither Trump nor Joe Biden support defunding the police.

"There won’t be defunding. There won’t be dismantling of our police," Trump said.

"I don’t support defunding the police," Joe Biden said. "I support conditioning federal aide to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness."

There’s a group of congressional lawmakers who want to ban police from using tear gas, on protestors, which we all saw happen countless times since the George Floyd protests launched. in the latest effort to restrict law enforcement’s use of chemical and other “less lethal” weapons on civilians.

The LA Times reports:

Federal funding would be denied to police agencies that refuse to comply with the ban and dispose of tear gas in their arsenal under legislation to be proposed Thursday by Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Mark Takano of Riverside and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia of Chicago.

“Last week, people were just so shocked to see this administration tear-gas its own people. Tear gas is a chemical weapon that is used in war,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a phone call with the other lawmakers and the Los Angeles Times this week. “It is one of the most basic steps we can take.”

Police are supposed to follow manufacturers’ instructions and deploy tear gas when people have a clear exit route, but that did not appear to be the case in Washington, D.C., Minneapolis and other sites of recent peaceful protests where participants and journalists were injured.

A White House spokeswoman has denied that tear gas was used against protesters in Washington as police cleared a park in advance of a visit by President Trump to a nearby church last week.

“The administration denied they were using it, but indeed they found there were cartridges marked ‘CS,’” another term for tear gas, Takano said.

Hmph. We can’t understand why police are so quick to throw "tear gas" on peaceful protestors, but maybe those were orders given from the higher ups…

Here’s Why DOJ Says Trump Labeling ANTIFA A Terrorist Organization Is ‘Highly Problematic’ + Whites & Cops Spotted Doing Damage During Protests

Trump is vowing to name ANTIFA as a terrorist organization and the DOJ is explaining why that would be “highly problematic.” Meanwhile, videos of whites and cops doing damage to businesses during the George Floyd protests are surfacing. Get it all inside…

On Sunday, Trump tweeted that the U.S. government would be “designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.”

“I don’t see any indication that there were any white supremest groups mixing in. This is an ANTIFA Organization. It seems that the first time we saw it in a major way was Occupy Wall Street. It’s the same mindset.” @kilmeade @foxandfriends TRUE!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 1, 2020

“’I don’t see any indication that there were any white supremest groups mixing in. This is an ANTIFA Organization. It seems that the first time we saw it in a major way was Occupy Wall Street. It’s the same mindset.’ @kilmeade @foxandfriends TRUE!,” he tweeted.

“These were the people that trashed Seattle years ago. Who’s paying for these people. I was appalled that 13 of Joe Biden’s staff were donating money to bail people out in Minneapolis. They should have stayed in jail until this is over (and beyond).” @newtgingrich @foxandfriends

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 1, 2020

He continued, “These were the people that trashed Seattle years ago. Who’s paying for these people. I was appalled that 13 of Joe Biden’s staff were donating money to bail people out in Minneapolis. They should have stayed in jail until this is over (and beyond). @newtgingrich @foxandfriends”

As expected, Trump is deflecting. He’s blaming the violent protests on radical left-wing group, ANTIFA, making NO mention of other possible groups that are participating in damaging property during the protests. Trump blames ANTIFA for driving all of the violence and property damage.

According to ABC News, senior officials within the Justice Department, which would prosecute any such cases, have publicly warned against designating any U.S.-based groups as terrorist organizations, with one senior official telling Congress that such a move would be "highly problematic."

Legally, it seems Trump doesn’t have the authority to do so. Also, designating a terrorist group is typically a lengthy process, which requires careful legal review, as well as proof of foreign ties.

ABC News reports:

In particular, current and former government officials have repeatedly worried that officially designating a U.S.-based group as a terrorist organization could have significant First Amendment consequences.

The First Amendment protects the rights of Americans who like spewing "hateful speech" and "assembling with others who share the same hateful views," so "unless an organization engages solely in unprotected activity, such as committing crimes of violence, any designation of a (U.S.-based) organization as a terrorist organization … would likely run afoul of the First Amendment," Mary McCord, the former head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, told a House panel in January.

Such free speech concerns aren’t implicated when dealing with groups based abroad, such as ISIS or al-Qaida. After all, foreigners outside of the United States are not protected by the First Amendment.

Attorney General Bill Barr said the Justice Department would prosecute people who crossed state lines to participate in violence, citing his authorities under anti-riot legislation.

“The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly,” Barr said.

Will they be prosecuting people who go online to incite violence under a fake alias? According to CNN, Twitter removed an account that was allegedly created by a known white supremacist group. Posing as ANTIFA, the now-suspended Twitter account tweeted a call for violence

"This account violated our platform manipulation and spam policy, specifically the creation of fake accounts," a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement. "We took action after the account sent a Tweet inciting violence and broke the Twitter Rules."

Goes to show how the alt-right is using this moment in time to continue to spew violence and hate.

President Trump also said on the call: "You gotta arrest these people…And you can’t do the deal where they get one week in jail. These are terrorists, these are terrorists. They’re looking to do bad things to our country. They’re Antifa and they’re radical left."

— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche) June 1, 2020

Trump spoke with U.S. governors and told them "You gotta arrest these people…And you can’t do the deal where they get one week in jail. These are terrorists, these are terrorists. They’re looking to do bad things to our country. They’re Antifa and they’re radical left."

He told the governors they needed to "dominate" the protesters.

Listen to the full conversation is below:

While the Trump administration is blaming ANTIFA for everything, Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert said "anarchists" are likely the ones who hijacked peaceful protests downtown.

“I’m just so angry at the fact that some segment hijacked this and took some of the youth and brought them into the mix,” he said.

What’s odd (or not since we’re talking about #45) is that Trump doesn’t make any mention of white people who have been caught on camera damaging property. Seattle Police Officers were seen damaging property:

In another video, cops were seen telling a white woman what to write as she was spraying graffiti on the side of a building:

A Black Woman Has Been Selected As Lead Prosecutor In Ahmaud Arbery’s Case + More Updates

Georgia’s attorney general announced district attorney Joyette Holmes as the new lead prosecutor in the murder case of Ahmaud Arbery. She’s the fourth since the young black man was killed in February while jogging in a Georgia neighborhood. More inside…

Georgia’s attorney general tapped a new lead prosecutor in the murder case of Ahmaud Arbery.

Joyette M. Holmes – a black female from Cobb County in the Atlanta metropolitan area – is the fourth prosecutor assigned to the case since the 25-year-old was gunned down by two white men two-and-a-half months ago while out jogging. By the way, she’s the first African-American to serve as district attorney in the district.

Joyette will oversee the prosecution of Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, who were charged with murder and aggravated assault after a video of them pursuing Arbery in a pick up truck and then shooting him dead in a Brunswick, Georgia street surfaced online last week.

Right now, the US Department of Justice is considering whether to also pursue federal hate crime charges against the father-son duo. Joyette supersedes Tom Durden, who reportedly requested to be replaced by a prosecutor with a larger staff citing the case’s growth ‘in size and magnitude.’

"District Attorney Holmes is a respected attorney with experience, both as a lawyer and a judge,’ state Attorney General Chris Carr, a Republican, said in a statement. ‘And the Cobb County District Attorney’s office has the resources, personnel and experience to lead this prosecution and ensure justice is done."

A video of Ahmaud’s murder was captured on video and leaked almost three months later. The person who recorded the murder said he did because he thought it would HELP his friends and he’s now receiving death threats.

The friend believed the footage would clear the McMichaels of any crime, because if Arbery ‘had just froze… he wouldn’t have been shot’ The McMichaels have claimed that Arbery was a burglary suspect – but no thefts had been reported in the neighborhood for seven weeks before they shot him.

Brunswick District Attorney Jackie Johnson reportedly blocked police from arresting the pair, because Gregory McMichael had worked in her office

However, the pair were arrested at their home in Brunswick on Thursday after the leaked footage of Arbery’s shooting sparked widespread outrage

The McMichaels have now been charged with murder and aggravated assault

President Donald Trump called video footage of Arbery’s shooting ‘very disturbing’, while Joe Biden says it showed he was ‘killed in cold blood’ Lee Merritt, a lawyer for Abery’s family, stated: ‘These men were vigilantes, they were performing a lynching in the middle of the day’ Hundreds gathered to protest Arbery’s murder Friday on what would have been his 26th birthday.’

The father-son duo claims they were trying to make a citizens arrest and killed him because Ahmaud attacked them during it (similar to Zimmerman defense). You can only make a citizens arrest in GA if it’s because a felonious act occurred. And in Ahmaud’s case, no crime was committed.

New video of Ahmaud checking out a construction site has surfaced:

Ahamaud being inside of that construction site is not burglary or a felony. The owners of the home also confirmed Ahmaud didn’t do anything wrong or take anything from the site.

As for the community:

"Now, it’s honestly not safe," said his attorney, Elizabeth Graddy. "It’s supposed to be a place for comfort and peace. And now, it will be forever associated with this tragedy."
