Ashanti Reveals What Her Ex-Nelly Whispered In Her Ear During VERZUZ Battle, Says Run-In Was A ‘Little Awkward’

We all saw that random moment when Nelly jetted across the stage to hug his ex-Ashanti and whisper in her ear during the Ja Rule vs. Fat Joe VERZUZ Battle.

Now, Ashanti is sharing what he said during the “little awkward” moment…

Ashanti and Nelly were one of Hip Hop’s most-loved couples during the early 2000s. They first met in 2003 at a Grammy Awards press conference. Then, dating rumors began shortly after. There was even marriage talk at one point during their decade long relationship, however, they never made it down the aisle. They called it quits in 2013.

Since then, they’ve gone their separate ways.

Ashanti has been living her very best life over the years. She’s glowing these days with tons of amazing things coming down the pipeline. Sis has been out in these streets, touring with Omarion and Bow Wow on the Millennium Tour, jetting off to the islands, slaying birthday parties and more.

The Grammy Award winning singer was front and center to support her Murda Inc. homie Ja Rule during his VERZUZ Battle with Fat Joe. The R&B singer was minding her business on stage before her ex-Nelly made a viral moment.

The Country Grammar” rapper saw Ashanti looking good across the stage and made a beeline to her with his arms extended as if he wanted a hug. He leaned in for a hug and whispered something in her ear. Check it:

The former Murda Inc. First Lady sat down to chop it up with Power 105’s Angie Martinez and the radio host didn’t waste any time to ask her about the viral moment with her ex.

"It was very unexpected," she said. "I hadn’t seen him in, like, six years. Spoken or seen. It was a little awkward!"

So, what did Nelly whisper in her ear?

"You know what the crazy part is, he didn’t say anything," she explained. "He didn’t say anything. First of all, I didn’t know he was going to be there. I told Joe, like, ‘Joe, why didn’t you tell me he was gonna be here?’ He was like, ‘Sis, I know, it’s terrible! I couldn’t risk you not coming if you knew he was gonna be there,” she said impersonating Joe perfectly.

Ashanti went on to reveal she’s currently in a relationship with someone, but she’s keeping it “low and private.” She said “some of us” might know her boyfriend, but she’s not revealing who he is.

After several failed relationships, Ashanti said she hopes she gets it right this time around, but admitted it’s a lot balancing her career, personal and love life.

As for her career, she’s currently on your, she has book coming out, she’s gearing up to executive produce another film and she’ll be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Not only that, she plans on re-recording her self-titled debut album. The reason? She said she wants to show the business side of ownership and how important it is to “own.” With her first album contract, she’s allowed to re-record it and everything purchased from that moment on, she owns.

There may be some new direction on the album, but she confirmed she’s not taking Ja off any records. If anything, she said she’ll “add some sauce” to records for the re-record. While she said Ja pretty much supports her new endeavors, she hinted “the other guy” (*coughs* Irv Gotti *coughs*) likely isn’t happy about it.

Irv Gotti – who produced most of her early records – chimed in with his issue with her re-recording her album, saying she’s trying to "f over his masters he owns". It sounds like he’d rather flex owning something of hers than her wanting to own something of hers as well.

Also, the singer talked about praying with late rapper DMX, catching COVID-19 (she caught it from a family member) traveling the world, how she decides if she’ll clear a sample, and more. Ashanti was joined by her sister, Shia, where she talked about what it was like growing us as Ashanti’s little sister. She also reflected on a brutal domestic violence attack where her jaw was broken.

Irv Gotti Apologizes For ‘Talking Out Of Turn’ About DMX’s Death After Swizz Beatz Called Him A ‘Bozo’

Irv Gotti is apologizing for “talking out of turn” for the comments he made about DMX’s death. 50 Cent shared a snippet of what Irv said about X’s death on his social media, which prompted X’s homie/producer Swizz Beatz to respond. Everything inside…

Last week, Irv Gotti made some comments about DMX’s death during an interview with WGCI’s Kendra G where he said X died from a Fentanyl overdose from smoking bad crack. He also said X tested positive for COVID-19 while in the hospital.

50 Cent – who doesn’t get along with Irv – hopped on Instagram to clown Irv about the comments, sharing a snippet from the interview while calling him an idiot.

“This guy is a idiot,” Fif wrote in the caption of the snippet from the interview. “Did he just say DMX died from smoking crack and fentanyl! why would he say that?”

X’s homie/longtime collaborator Swizz Beatz agreed with Fif, writing, "Bozo moves can’t lie." Rapper Jadakiss also co-signed.

The Ruff Ryderz rapper passed away on April 9th after a reported drug overdose, which reportedly triggered a heart attack. On April 24th, his life was celebrated during a ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Swizz took the stage and talked about how he wished all the people that were there for X after his passing were there when he was alive.

After getting dragged online for the interview, the Murder Inc. honcho hopped on Instagram to apologize and to clarify his statements. He admitted to "talking out of turn," but he claims everything he said had already been reported by the media.

"Everything I said had been out there already. I did not break anything I said. But you know what. I understand. No one wanted to hear it from me. And for that I am truly sorry," he said.

"To ever make people think. I don’t love my nigga X. Anybody that knows me or knew X. Cannot ever front like me and X didn’t share a special bond. I put my whole career on the line for X. And did things for X that is unquestionable. Our relationship grew and grew to the point where I feel I understood X and the love he wanted. That’s why I say DOG LOVE. Unconditional LOVE is what I gave X."

DMX’s Fiancée Desiree Prays For Strength As She Mourns Late Rapper, X’s Kids Unite At Funeral + Kanye West Raises $1M For X’s Family

Desiree Lindstrom – DMX’s fiancée – is mourning the death of her soulmate, DMX, following his memorial services that took place over the weekend. During the public ceremony, X’s ex-wife Tashera Simmons shared a special moment with Desiree that had everyone’s eyes filled with tears. Also, Kanye West has raised $1 million for X’s 15 children.

Everything inside…

DMX’s loved ones are still coming to terms with his sudden death, which is totally understandable. The 50-year-old rapper died at White Plains Hospital in New York on April 9th, one week after suffering a heart attack which was reportedly brought on by a drug overdose.

X’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, is continuing to mourn the death of her late fiancé, rapper DMX, which she has been doing since he passed.

On Tuesday (two days after his memorial), Desiree wrote out how she’s feeling on her IG Stories, sharing how she terribly misses X and asked God to give her strength during this time.

”Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you because I am so weak right now. I pray for the strength lord Jesus! Loosing [sp] a loved one, has been by far the hardest thing ever in my life! I’m so lost without my soulmate, I’m so lost without my son’s father!,” she wrote. “I just pray God, that you continue to life me and my son up! For this one is so hard for me!”

The memorial service for the late DMX was limited to friends and family due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the memorial was broadcast live online via X’s YouTube channel. Hundreds of motorcyclists rolled through downtown Brooklyn leading up to the memorial, which was led by a Ruff Ryders monster truck carrying DMX’s coffin.

DMX – real name Earl Simmons – and Tashera Simmons were married for 11 years and have four children together. They met when they were 18 years-old and even then she was astounded by his spirituality.

During the ceremony, X’s ex-wife Tashera Simmons paid tribute to the late rapper and made sure to show love to his current fiancee Desiree, which made for a special moment:

Several celebs were in attendance for the rapper’s memorial, including X’s former collaborators Nas, Eve, Jadakiss, Drag-On, Styles P and Swizz Beatz.

Superproducer Swizz Beatz dropped some gems and even stepped on some toes while speaking about his brother.

"I just wish all these people showed up for him when he was here," the "Ruff Ryders’ Anthem" producer said. "He needed everybody when he was here, we got to learn to celebrate each other while we’re here."

"And I need everybody to do a will. You have to do your will. You do not want strangers — bloodsuckers — handling your business when you’re not here. You want the ones that you love handling your business," he said.

"But, imma make sure my brother straight. Imma make sure my brother’s kids is straight and everybody in here better do the same, as well. ‘Cause this is not a fashion show, this is not a performance, this is a real-life day-to-day."

Also, Ye is raising money to help out X’s 15 kids after commissioning a DMX t-shirt designed by Balenciaga. TMZ reports:

Sources close to Kanye tell us the custom DMX T-shirt designed by Balenciaga — which was commissioned by the Yeezy brand and put up for sale Saturday as X’s memorial got underway — ended up cranking out huge profits quickly … upwards of a million bucks.

Balenciaga had already said they’d be giving the net profits back to the fam — but the fact those sales produced a million dollars is staggering. Then again, the shirt was retailing for $200 a pop … so we suppose it makes sense. The DMX tribute shirt sold out in 24 hours.  There’s another way Kanye got involved in Saturday’s ceremony — which Swizz Beatz actually alluded to during the event. Yes, we’ve heard Kanye and the Yeezy team did, in fact, design the stage where the Sunday Service choir performed, and where guests also spoke.

Redman & Method Man’s VERZUZ Battle Was A Virtual Concert That Made For The Perfect 4/20 Session

Forget a battle, it was a whole concert! Redman and Method Man hit the stage for their VERZUZ battle and it was the perfect backdrop for a chill 4/20 session. More inside….

Redman and Method Man brought the 4/20 vibes during their “How High” VERZUZ Battle last night, which folks needed after an eventful day. The VERZUZ battle was the ultimate celebration for this year’s 4/20 holiday, especially after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts in the murder of George Floyd.

In honor of the 4/20 holiday, rappers/longtime friends Redman (who turned 51 over the weekend) and Method Man rapped, danced and joked around during their lighthearted VERZUZ “battle” that was the perfect soundtrack to a celebrate the marijuana smoking holiday.

Method Man referenced the verdict reached by the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial saying, “Guilty on all charges,” he said.

One highlight of the night is when Method Man proved to be the perfect hype man when he helped his homie Redman by holding up his cape to mimic a strong breeze so he could transform into Sooperman Lover, the superhero character he introduced on his debut album in 1992.

The rap duo brought out special guests RZA, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna. DJ Kool showed up and did “Let’s Get Dirty” and “Let Me Clear My Throat.” EPMD, Keith Murray, and Lords of the Underground’s Dupre “Doitall” Kelly also made an appearance.

It’s been a minute since the rappers co-starred in their 2001 stoner movie How High and it surely has been a long time since their first single “How High” in 1995, but their energy was LIT.

DMX’s Memorial Service Set To Go Down At The Barclay’s Center, Only Family & Friends Can Attend

A memorial to honor the legacy of rapper DMX is set to go down next week at Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center. Only family and friends can attend, but it will be live streamed. More deets inside….

Family and friends of DMX will gather next week to honor a rap legend.

A memorial service for late rapper DMX is set for Saturday, April 24th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, according to his former manager Steve Rifkind. With COVID-19 protocols there will be limited capacity. X hit the Barclay’s Center stage in June 2019 in what would be one of his final big shows during the Masters of Ceremony event.

The Barclay’s Center can hold up to 19,000 fans for concerts, although it’s unclear how many people will be allowed in the New York arena. Attendance is capped at 10 percent capacity. R.I.P. DMX: The World Mourns

The death of a poet hits differently.  Rapper and actor DMX has passed away at age 50, and the mourning from all over the entertainment world and beyond is proof that his impact will last forever.

What many deemed the inevitable – all while remaining extremely hopeful – has happened. DMX, 50, died Friday after suffering a heart attack following a reported drug overdose at his home on April 2nd. He had openly battled substance abuse for decades, and last checked into rehab in 2019. He appeared to be living life to the fullest in a healthy way recently.

His family and representative confirmed the news in dual statements after X spent several days on life support in a White Plains, NY hospital. He also leaves behind a reported 15 (possibly 17) children.

His ex-wife Tashera Simmons and fiancé Desiree Lindstrom embraced outside during his final hours as they held vigil with tons of fans:

Tashera Simmons, DMX’s ex-wife & Desiree Lindstrom, X’s fiancée console each other outside of White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY during a prayer vigil for Dark Man X. I’m still in shock & praying hard for him, his family and his true fans. #PrayersupforDMX #DMX pic.twitter.com/AYOWb3uLUY

— (@NikkiBJaxx417) April 5, 2021

“Earl Simmons was a wonderful, caring father, and a sensitive, thoughtful man,” said Lyor Cohen, a former executive at Def Jam, in a statement. “Unfortunately, Dark Man X took over and ran amok, tormented and struggling to find the light. … DMX gave me the inspiration to keep going at Def Jam when rap became soft and silly.”

The Associated Press reports:

“You can’t be a fan and not feel empathy for him in his journey,” hip-hop and electronic music producer Flying Lotus said in an interview while DMX was hospitalized this week. “You think of ‘Belly’ and all the great stuff that he was part of. But he was dealt such a weird hand, I think, with the drug stuff. And I just have empathy.”

That’s a word.

The "Ruff Ryders’ Anthem”, "Where My Dogs At?!" and “Party Up (Up in Here)” rapper and star of cult classics Romeo Must Die and Belly was remembered by seemingly everyone. From his fellow Ruff Ryders to Hollywood stars like Ed Norton and Jet Li to the fans who soaked up every single word he ever said in that iconic raspy voice to strangers he made a point to make friends.

Here’s several of those salutes:

My step daughter, Mia, graduated from college and I offered her a long weekend wherever she wanted to go.

She picked San Diego, which was a short flight to maximize the time on the ground adventuring.

I researched hotels, sites and restaurants for our trip.

DMX Remains On Life Support, Prognosis ‘Not Looking Good’ After Lawyer Gets Status Info Mixed Up +X ’s Kids Fly In

DMX’s children are hopping on flights to be by his side after he reportedly suffered an overdose and is currently STILL in critical condition. His lawyer told reporters he had been taken off of life support only to come back to announce he was given the wrong information. X still isn’t out of the woods yet. More inside…

Rapper/Actor DMX – real name Earl Simmons – was hospitalized after an apparent drug overdose at his home Friday night in White Plains, NY.

At first, there were reports that the 50-year-old was in critical care as some sources stated he was in a vegetative state with only "some brain activity," and "he may not make it."

Then, X’s attorney, Murray Richman, announced the Grammy-nominated rapper had been taken off of life support:

However, that was not the case, crushing fans. Apparently, X’s lawyer received the WRONG information about his health status:

“It does not look good,” X’s lawyer told Page Six Saturday night. “A lot of people are gathering at the hospital.”

It’s reported paramedics tried resuscitating him for 30 minutes! During that time, he was deprived of oxygen and the lack of oxygen could severely impact X’s brain.

A rep for X also issued a statement to TMZ:

"Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer,” he said.

"The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need."

DMX’s children and his first wife, Tashera Simmons, are at the hospital with him, according to his attorney. His fiancé Desiree Lindstorm – who is the mother of his youngest child Exodus – is also there.

It was previously reported DMX suffered a heart attack after the overdose, but his lawyer can’t confirm that right now.

“I refuse to vouch for that because I have no personal knowledge,” the lawyer said.

The tragic news about the “Where the Hood At” rapper sparked an outpouring across social media, where celebrities asked for prayers for the Yonkers native, including Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, T.I., Chance The Rapper, Viola Davis and tons more.

X, who is a father to 15 children and has been engaged to his fiancé Desiree Lindstrom for about 2 years, has battled with drug addiction for several years. Most recently, the Ruff Ryders legend checked himself into rehab in 2019 after a year long prison stint for tax evasion.  But X was seemingly on an upswing recently with having things under control, and often appear to be a happy family man on social media.  And he stays ready with a word from the gospel:

REMY MA – Another One lyrics

Heard you callin’ everyone
Now call ’em back, ’cause I got another one
Heard you was kiddin’, sayin’ I ain’t havin’ none
But that’s okay baby, ’cause now you my son
They like, “Yo, Rem go in again”
My flow cold, her ink froze in the pen
You gotta go, you gotta go, lil hoe
I kick a dead horse till it don’t move
Don’t come around me, now I got the crown, see
I beat you with punches in 48, you Ronda Rousey
The wigs and nose, you a whole clown, B
I better not ever hear you say anything about me
I came from behind bars like a bottle girl
No candy bars, I raise the bar, I’m like a bodybuild
All blue Maserati, sawed-off lil shottie
Put blood in your head, leave your whole damn head red, Lil Yachty
Oh, and if you doubt that, you can catch me outside, bitch, how bout that?
When it’s dark and hell is hot, I’ll DM your ex
Sittin’ here now like, “Who I’ma DM next?”
I handle these bars like a BMX, Grrr
Get at me dog, DMX
And I’m waitin’ for a bitch to talk outta her neck
‘Cause we got pictures, we got videos, and we got texts

Already took a L, now you got another one
I secure the bag, now I got another one
I caught the W, now I got another one
Yo, what’s that shit you be sayin’, Khaled?
(Another one)
Already took a L, now you got another one
I secure the bag, now I got another one
I caught the W, now I got another one
Yo, what’s that shit you be sayin’, Khaled?

SonReal – No Warm Up

[Verse 1]
They told me things like, uh, "Go get a job"
I told them things like, uh, "Go, go fuck off"
I’m cool kid to these cool kids, I lead my own parade
Cause this new shit I drop right now gon’ make your fuckin’ day
I got shit to lose just like a plumber
Locked down like Ye for three summers
Locked down like DMX when he peel out
Vroom vroom, you know I’m the only real out
First try, no warm up with no diploma
I used to drive to Kelowna, get booed like a fuckin’ loaner
Cause I was scared of myself and I showed it to everybody
This go out to anybody who yelling "We ready, Sonny" like
Ready, ready, ready

[Hook]
What’s up? What’s up? What’s up?
First try, no warm up
What’s up? What’s up? What’s up?

So this shit right here, this gon’ make me levitate right ‘bove you
I get higher than Peter Pan going skydiving
I can’t miss, so I’m putting with my five iron
Vancouver raised a boy to a man
From a hundred dollar show to a couple hundred grand
I write my music like a 12 year old who’s sitting in the stands
Cause that 12-year old was me when I was looking for my dad like
Chicka-bow-wow, chicka-bow-wow, run it
So if you see me walking, come and say "What’s up" to Sonny like
Run it, run it, run it

[Hook]
What’s up? What’s up? What’s up?
First try, no warm up
What’s up? What’s up? What’s up?

[Post-Hook]
First try, no warm up
First try, no warm up
First try, no warm up
First try, no warm up

[Verse 3]
Hot damn, why you looking at me?
I been beaming like I just went pro
You can act like you running the show
But since I came here, man, I just don’t know
Mama told me, "Don’t break no rules
‘Less you’re planning on doing it first try"
I dedicate this song right here to anybody yelling "Free yo mind"
Run it, run it, run it

Sage The Gemini – Do Not Disturb lyrics

[Hook]
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb

[Verse 1]
Hop out the coupe like a bird, scratching my rims on the curb
They be like, “Hey, what’s the word?”
I’m like, the bird is the word
I look like I’m the one serving, serving the fields with a purpose
My [?] looking like [?], I’mma hurt ’em
Wait, I am still [?] like Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thugger
DMX, yeah, all my dogs, they are all for more [?]
We ’bout 4 Gs, jeans like 4 Gs
My car got Wi-Fi, I don’t need 4Gs
She say she want me, ay, I say she full of shit
She really want my green, but I only carry blue strips
Pull up to the front, you all know you gon’ learn
Niggas know it’s my turn
This how they flock on me, specially watching me
[Hook]
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird

[Verse 2]
I hop out the coupe, you complain I do the money dance
All I wanna do is put the cash in the rubber band
If I spend this shit, gon’ put it in my other hand
In my other hand, yeah
Got a lot of commas, my posse ’round us
They gon’ shoot ’til they last number
With 30 rounds, they just tryna round up
Money didn’t change us, we just counted louder
I used to make seven bucks an hour
Me and bad bitches didn’t get along
Now I ride around, heater stay on
I know it’s summertime but my chains cold
Please don’t hear my phone, please don’t hear my phone
Please don’t hear my phone, please don’t hear my phone
Now you know I’m on, now you know I’m on
I thought you heard, my phone on Do Not Disturb
Watch me

[Hook]
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
Hop out the coupe like a bird
My phone on Do Not Disturb
