Lil Nas X Gets In Some Tongue Action With Dancer During 2021 BET Awards Performance, Said He Had To ‘Mentally Prepare’ & Was ‘Trembling’

Lil Nas X made sure he left a lasting impression at this year’s BET Awards. At the end of his performance, he made out with his dancer and is now receiving backlash. Find out his response and more inside…

One thing Lil Nas X knows how to do well is keep his name trending.

The "Old Town Road" artist stunned everyone when he closed out his performance at the 2021 BET Awards with a kiss. Lil Nas X didn’t disappoint with the choreography and production of the Egyptian-inspired theme set, which gave us Michael Jackson "Remember The Time" vibes, to perform his single, "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)."

You’ll recall, when the Grammy Award winner dropped the visuals to the track, he caused a firestorm of controversy. In the video, Lil Nas X is seen giving "the devil" a lap dance. Well, his performance served up a shocking moment (to most) when he passionately kissed a male dancer at the very end. Peep his performance below:

While fans like "POSE" star Mj Rodriguez loved the performance, Lil Nas X has been catching backlash on social media. He has been clapping back at the haters, while throwing in a few trolling tweets as well.

"it took me a lot of time to mentally prepare for this performance. while on stage i was trembling knowing that i was performing something like that in front of my straight peers," he tweeted. "even during the performance i was having a hard time calming my nerves. thank you guys for the love."

"DONT USE AFRICAN CULTURE FOR SHITS LIKE THIS!!!!!!! RESPECT OUR ANCESTORS," one fan tweeted.

"y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in african culture," Lil Nas X responded.

y’all hate yourselves so much. y’all live your lives trying your best to appease straight ppl. y’all are uncomfortable with what i do because y’all are afraid they will be uncomfortable with you. work on yourselves, i love who i am and whatever i decide to do. get there. https://t.co/oHoYkux98F

"we are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that i am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual shit. like the song is literally about gay sex what y’all want me to do play the piano while baking a cake?"

you’re right i am insecure about my sexuality. i still have a long way to go. i’ve never denied that. when you’re conditioned by society to hate yourself your entire life it takes a lot of unlearning. which is exactly why i do what i do. https://t.co/PtiehZdDGS

"You’re so insecure about your sexuality you’re over compensating for it every chance you get. Gay people who know themselves don’t constantly have to remind eveyone that they are gay. Take a look at yourself on the mirror bro," one fan wrote.

LGBTQ+ comedian Supa Bihh (Deon Anderson) took to social media to share commentary about Lil Nas X’s performance and he had plenty to say.

"It’s more to gay men than sexual acts," Supa said in one of his videos.  He also asked why X didn’t talk about safe sex.

Some folks weren’t here for what Supa said though.

Check out the reactions above and below and tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Back at the awards…

Lil Nas X rocked TWO different ‘fits on the red carpet. First, he wore a floral Richard Quinn suit from the Fall collection and then he changed into a dress from Andrea Grossi Season 1.
